Sail Caribbean Trip Insurance
We realize that unforeseeable events may arise that could cause you to cancel or interrupt your summer program. As a result, Sail Caribbean makes arrangements each year to offer you excellent trip cancellation/interruption insurance through a large, multi-national insurance provider. We highly recommend that you purchase coverage to protect your investment.
We offer two plans - one by Trip Mate for U.S. and Canadian citizens or residents, and one by Seven Corners for international students.
Trip Mate Trip Insurance Plan for U.S. and Canadian citizens or residents
This Trip Insurance plan provides coverage prior to and during your trip:
- Trip Cancellation - the policy reimburses your non-refundable payments if you have to cancel before the program begins for covered reasons such as injury, sickness, or disabling illness of an immediate family member.
- Trip Interruption - the policy reimburses your unused non-refundable payments if your trip is interrupted, or you are unable to continue your trip, for covered reasons.
- Medical Expenses/Emergency Assistance – the policy reimburses your trip-related medical expenses and provides emergency evacuation benefits.
- Baggage & Personal Effects – coverage for loss, theft or damage to your baggage and personal belongings.
Other benefits of the Trip Mate coverage:
- Injuries during amateur, organized, and intramural sports are not excluded.
- Scuba diving, as delivered by Sail Caribbean, is not excluded so this plan can be used to satisfy our dive insurance requirement.
- Mental, nervous or psychological conditions are not excluded.
Cancel For Any Reason up to 2 days before departure (CFAR):
This option provides 75% coverage for trip cancellation up until 2 days before departure for any reason. Sail Caribbean will provide a non-transferable voucher for the remaining 25% of tuition to be used toward any Sail Caribbean program before the end of the following summer. For example, summer school is not a covered reason under the standard policy, but would be covered under this CFAR option.
Purchase Timing
- The Trip Mate Plan is only available prior to, or at time of, full tuition payment.
- Prior to full payment of tuition, Trip Mate may be purchased at any time but broader benefits are only available if purchased 60+ days before departure date. Or, if initial deposit is within 60 days, then one must purchase policy at time of initial deposit to get these broader benefits:
- Pre-existing conditions exclusion is waived if purchased 60+ days prior to departure, or at initial deposit if within 60 days.
- CFAR option is only available before 60+ days, or at initial deposit if within 60 days.
