Experiential Learning on Echo
The Echo outdoor leadership program will help you develop the ability to put your passion for challenge and adventure to work with both confidence and skill. Learning by doing is our proven method for success. Through participation in practical drills, interactive lessons, and peer group discussions, you'll learn how to lead by example and infect those in your care with your enthusiasm for outdoor adventure. You will also be eligible for four semester credits* in Outdoor Adventure Education through Prescott College whose philosophy emphasizes experiential learning and self-direction with an interdisciplinary curriculum. No other college or university offers more depth or breadth of experience for an undergraduate education in Adventure Education than Prescott College.
Sail Caribbean veteran program leaders will guide you through the best practices in experiential learning, preparing you for roles as instructors and youth mentors with skills that are essential in any position of leadership or responsibility. As your knowledge of advanced sailing, seamanship and safety at sea grows, so too will your confidence in passing on your skills to others.
As well as developing your sailing ability, the Echo curriculum focuses on the main skill sets needed for successful leadership, leaving you with a new awareness of group dynamics, conflict resolution skills, effective communication and problem-solving techniques. We'll teach you to plan and deliver creative lessons for groups and individuals. You'll also learn to cope with common youth issues in a professional and ethical manner to empower and inspire your students.
* Academic credits are transcripted for $150/credit additional cost, collected by Sail Caribbean before the program start and paid to Prescott College upon successful completion of the course.
