Experiential Learning on Echo
The Echo outdoor leadership program will help you develop the ability to put your passion for challenge and adventure to work with both confidence and skill. Learning by doing is our proven method for success. Through participation in practical drills, interactive lessons, and peer group discussions, you'll learn how to lead by example and infect those in your care with your enthusiasm for outdoor adventure. We emphasize experiential learning and a college-level course focusing on leadership skills, teaching methods, youth mentoring, advanced sailing and seamanship, and safety and emergency management.
Sail Caribbean veteran program leaders will guide you through the best practices in experiential learning, preparing you for roles as instructors and youth mentors with skills that are essential in any position of leadership or responsibility. As your knowledge of advanced sailing, seamanship and safety at sea grows, so too will your confidence in passing on your skills to others.
As well as developing your sailing ability, the Echo curriculum focuses on the main skill sets needed for successful leadership, leaving you with a new awareness of group dynamics, conflict resolution skills, effective communication and problem-solving techniques. We'll teach you to plan and deliver creative lessons for groups and individuals. You'll also learn to cope with common youth issues in a professional and ethical manner to empower and inspire your students.
