Experiential Service Learning
The British Virgin Islands ecosystem is your laboratory, the coral reefs your textbooks and you'll wake up next to them every day on Foxtrot summer community service programs. You'll have breakfast in the cockpit of your catamaran and then jump right into the crystal clear blue water to begin your day. 
Our anchorages are renowned for their teeming sea life. From sponges to sea turtles, baby squid to friendly nurse sharks, you'll learn to identify them all and begin to understand how they co-exist.
We're affiliated with REEF and Coral Watch, international reef health organizations that helps communities, governments and businesses to scientifically monitor, restore and maintain coral reefs. Using REEF and Coral Watch protocols, we'll show you how to perform a "check-up" of coral reef health. You'll do fish counts, record data on three reefs that are in danger in the BVI, and then we'll pass your data on to REEF and Coral Watch. Members of the BVI Department of Conservation and Fisheries will teach you how to tag sea turtles to help monitor their population and movements. We'll return beaches to pristine condition in our beach sweeps and survey important turtle feeding grounds.
In addition to a great feeling of accomplishment and contribution, you'll earn 20-30 hours community service credit. Learn more about Community Service...
Your boat is more than your ecology classroom, it's your floating home and a place to learn what goes into being part of a successful crew. No prior sailing experience necessary. Over our 30 years, we've seen all levels of skill and interest. Many of our teens have never sailed before, so we start right from the beginning with everyone. Those with previous sailing experience contribute their knowledge and skill. Our staff will provide sailing instruction every day as you sail from one anchorage to the next. You'll learn to raise and trim the sails, steer a straight course, safely tack and jibe your 42-47' catamaran, and then secure it for a restful night's sleep.

At Sail Caribbean, our philosophy is that experiential learning - learning by doing - is the best way to become a real sailor, maybe even a sailor for life. Each day, you'll take on a different responsibility onboard, rotating through Skipper-of-the-day and Navigator-of-the-day. And there's more to it than just learning to sail. You'll learn that life onboard means conservation, respect, leadership, teamwork, cooperation, compromise you'll even learn to cook "Delly Chicken" for your crew.
