Blue Water Sailing

At Sail Caribbean, blue water sailing is an integral part of our Down Island voyages. The phrase itself refers to long-distance sailing in the open ocean, sometimes out of sight of land. The Leeward and Windward Islands present the perfect opportunity to share our knowledge of safe passagemaking and build on your basic seamanship skills. We focus on equipment checks, communication with the fleet, weather updates, emergency procedures, and navigational skills. On our one overnight passage, it's an amazing experience to be standing watch as the sun rises on the distant horizon ahead. Making landfall may be your immediate reward, but the memory of the challenges you faced and the successes you had during this journey is sure to last. Learn more about Sailing & Seamanship...

Explore the Islands

Since Columbus, explorers have been amazed by the natural beauty and variety of the Caribbean islands - you will be too. Hike through a rainforest or to the top of a volcano. Spy on exotic tropical birds and spot the rare greenback monkey. You'll see why the islanders cherish this part of the world and meet its unique characters, born of a melting pot of cultures. You'll see picturesque hilltop villages and lively towns, chat with friendly local people, and shop for local crafts and souvenirs.

Social Events

There's no shortage of opportunity to meet new people. You'll be living on a sailboat with 11 other teens your own age, who quickly become family. We travel as a fleet, so when we go ashore you'll also meet the crews and staff from the other boats. During the day, the beach is alive with games and activity. As the sun goes down there could be a barbecue, we might hit a local restaurant for dinner, or dance at a beachside disco. To wrap it all up, your crew competes for honor and glory at the Sail Caribbean Olympics, a time-honored tradition that's a highlight of each voyage.
