Alpha 1 Day 11: Chili Cook Off!

Rain tip-tapped on the decks above us before the sun had even peeked above the horizon. Sheets of rain showers travelled through the islands, so we lay in wait in our protected bay at Trellis, deciding to pass some time by doing a snorkel clean of the bay, leaving the places we visit more beautiful than when we arrived.

When the skies cleared and light shone through, we dropped our mooring ball and set sail for Bitter End Yacht Club. We headed upwind and got to practice a few tacks, heeling on one edge for as long as possible before needing to switch to the other.

Upon our arrival at the Bitter End, we swapped our big white sails for the smaller, colorful sails adorning the Hobie cats. We crisscrossed tack after tack across the mooring field, only taking breaks for ice-cream and some shopping ashore.  The other half of our time was spent skittering across the water again in Poparazzi.

To conclude our day, we got to celebrate with a Sail Caribbean tradition – Chili Cook Off! Each boat stirred up their best chili, and accompanied it with a song and story to entertain the guests, our famous chili judges. It was said by the judges that the chili and the company was phenomenal, winners of each of the tests (taste, smell, and plop) will be announced the last night of program for our awards night!

P.S. Stay tuned for photos to be added within this update later on tonight! I know you are all eager to see the adventures taking place, and we’re excited to show you! Please be patient as we round up the sights on fleet!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
