Alpha 2 2015 – Day 7

Today Miles was our captain, Abby was our navigator and Michael was our mate. We woke up at Salt Island and sailed an hour and a half down wind to Nanny Cay Marina. We had a little bit of trouble docking, but we worked as a team and eventually figured out a plan that would work. We had a lot of help from our roaming fender, Logan, and Lilly, Paige and Eli helped by actively spotting.

We then deep cleaned our boat and got our phones back afterwards so we could all phone our parents. We then went on a truck tour of Tortola. We saw some amazing views, this time from a top windy, hilly roads rather than aboard our boats.

Fun divers and those working on their Open Water certification left after their truck tour to go diving. Sophie, Ale, Miles, Michael, Mack, Marret, and Luke headed to a dive sight off of Norman Island. At this time, the rest enjoyed some mini golf, playing soccer and even caught some of the film “Into The Wild” which was playing on an outdoor screen.

After all were back together, we went out for dinner at Captain Mulligan’s which was great because it meant we didn’t have to do dinner clean afterwards, not to mention the food was delicious as well!

Today, our crew did a great job of problem solving as a team, but we need to work on timing. Our miracle moment was when we successfully docked and were able to use the amazing showers at Nanny.

Enjoy some photos of Alpha’s adventures, even some taken by student on Venture, Olivia Siegel!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
