Today, Davis was our skipper and Andrew Lewis was his mate. We woke up and had some delicious french toast which was prepared by Sam and Sydney. We then dropped the ball at Monkey Point and set sail to Sandy Cay. It was a downwind sail on a broad reach, with the wind speed around 20 knots. While we were under way, we learned how to jibe safely on the boat and Davis did an excellent job of controlling the boat while Lily and Andrew did a great job of helping to control the jib.

After around two and a half hours of sailing, we successfully moored at Sandy Cay and took in its beautiful turquoise waters and of course jumped in to go snorkeling. We had lunch then swam to shore where we went on a short hike around the small island. Then we played Ninja on the beach with the entire fleet where Charlie, Jeremy, and Andrew Lee put up a good fight but ultimately Nick was the winner!

We then left Sandy Cay and motor jibed to Soper’s Hole, where we went to shore for around an hour. We went around the different shops and even met a golden Labrador called “Poncho” which we all wanted to bring home. We then returned to the boat, and Kat and Allegra made us pasta bolognese for dinner. Today our crew did a great job of learning how to jibe but we need to improve on our concentration. Our miracle moment was when we picked up our fifth consecutive successful mooring ball.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
