As the days of the program progress, the staff voices grow quieter and quieter, commencing as driving commands, diminishing into encouraging whispers, and on this day, slipping into silence. CHALLENGE DAY!  This day is a special tradition at Sail Caribbean. Today the controls are relinquished entirely to the students. From the moment that they wake up to the moment that they go to sleep, the duties of the day are their responsibility.

This day their leadership teams went to the staff boat to have breakfast and participate in a staff meeting where they got the schedule and a briefing on the places that we would be traveling to. Then they left to direct the day on their boats! They were responsible for de-docking the boats, and setting sail for Long Bay on Beef Island. Once here, we shuttle to shore and said hello to our new friends from Sydney’s. This occasion was less about socializing and all about healthy competition! Our boats adorned their team flags and zinc painted war faces and entered the challenge. Facing down each of the other boats from the other programs in Sail Caribbean.

The winners of each event will be announced the last night of program!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
