Alpha 4, Charlie 3, Foxtrot 3 & Sierra 3: Day 10 and 11
Day 10 – Trellis Bay to Cooper Island
The dive boats came to Trellis Bay in the morning to pick up the dive students. Many of them are so close to completing their certifications. The rest of the crew went ashore to get smoothies and shop at the Loose Mongoose boutique. The unicorn smoothie was a favorite amongst the SC students.
After shop time, students either went back to their boat or hopped in the Colgate to sail over to Cooper Island. The boats are now pros at picking up a mooring ball. The afternoon was spent snorkeling and hanging out on the boat. Many of the dive students were out all day so they were pretty tired by the time they got back to their boats.
Day 11 – Cooper Island to Little Harbour/Chili Cookoff
The morning was spent either diving or sailing to Little Harbour. The students have taken full control of boat maneuvers and are eager for Challenge Day. Little Harbour requires a med-anchor so the students learned a new skill. After dropping an anchor in the middle of the harbor, the boats had to tie the stern to an object ashore. The execution takes knowledge of how your boat behaves in reverse and skill in getting lines ashore.
After lunch, students either participated in watersports, diving or turtle tagging. During the search for a turtle, the group snorkeled the reef at Soldier Bay. Many saw a barracuda and took pictures of coral for community service.
The evening was spent prepping for SC Chili Cook-Off, a tradition that students participate in during each program. Each boat must make a chili dinner for the staff boat. The boats are judged on flavor, theme and presentation. It is usually a pretty silly night for everyone!
