Today, we woke up to a beautiful sunrise over calm waters at Little Harbour, Peter Island. We had a great breakfast with our boats and then separated into our programs for morning activities. Sierra and Foxtrot got a great lesson on seagrasses by our marine biology mate. After the lesson, the Foxtrot students started to look for turtles right away. We saw the same turtle that had been tagged the previous day so we didn’t go after it but got to observe it swimming around and munching on sea grass. The Sierra kids continued to collect scientific data on invasive sea grasses using transects. We collected data all morning to make sure we had enough to analyze for our presentations. We had a great time and were really excited about making a difference. The Alpha and Charlie kids got some water sport and tubing time. We got to try all different kinds of water sports like water skis, wake boarding, wake skating, and knee boarding. Late morning, we all headed back to our boats and did pre departure checks. We were excited to get back to sailing and had a man overboard lesson. After the lesson, we practiced picking up fenders that acted as our man over board.

We sailed to Nanny Cay and when we got there we did a wonderful job at docking our three boats. We had a delicious lunch of quesadillas with a yummy bean dip. Right after lunch, the Open Water, Rescue divers, and fun divers got picked up by the dive boat. The Open Water students finished the last of their course and officially became Open Water certified divers! We all had a great time diving and seeing tons of fish and corals. The students who didn’t go diving got to hang out at Nanny Cay docks, go shopping, go to the beach, go to the pool and hang out with all their friends.

When everyone was back from diving, we had a big cleaning session for all the boats. Everyone got to use the really nice Nanny Cay marina showers which was a real treat. We felt refreshed and had a delicious dinner of Carbonara pasta. After dinner, we all hung out and discussed how quickly our time has flown by. We felt so grateful to have made such good friends and were looking forward to the rest of the week. We went to sleep excited for our next sail in the morning.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
