Alpha 4, Charlie 3, Foxtrot 3 & Sierra 3: Day 3 – Cooper Island

By wpdev August 13, 2021

Day 3

Students woke up to a beautiful morning at Cooper Island. The dive students went ashore to meet the dive boat at 8:30 am. Many of our Open Water students were able to successfully complete a large portion of their skills and one of the groups saw a barracuda!

The group that did not dive today went over to Salt Island and did the hike that Kajsa (our quarantine boat) did the day prior. In order to get ashore, the students had to complete their first anchoring. The hike was an out-and-back trail that opened up to a beautiful view of waves crashing against a cliff. Before heading back to the boats, the students spent some time cleaning up the beach. It was encouraging to see our students willing and excited to take care of the environment.

After up-anchoring at Salt Island, the boats went back to Cooper Island and were able to head ashore to check out the dive shop, boutique and ice cream shop. The ASA students went sailing in the Colgate after lunch and were practiced maneuvers on a smaller boat.

Dinner was made around 5:30 pm. The Advanced and Fun Divers met the dive boat right after for a night dive. They saw a shark and an octopus!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
