Alpha 4, Charlie 3, Foxtrot 3 & Sierra 3 Day 7: Chili Cook Off At Mountain Point!

Today, we woke up and had a delicious warm breakfast of French toast. After breakfast, we headed to shore for a lesson on the local mangrove systems and how they protect many things in the sea and on land. We got to see some red mangroves and see their crazy root systems first hand! After the mangrove lesson, we headed on to take on the Bitter End hike! This was a really cool hike with some of the best views we have seen thus far. We could see crystal clear turquoise waters in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda. After the hike, we headed back to our boats to take a nice dip in the cool Caribbean waters. We had a big lunch of grilled cheeses and tomato soup. After lunch, we got ready to leave the Bitter End. We all loved the couple days we spent here, but we’re really excited to get sailing again!
Before we left, we headed to the water dock and filled up our water tanks. In the process, we learned how to dock and de dock the boat. Once we got out of the channel, we had our sails up in no time. We had some extra staff members come and sail with us which was really cool. They were really excited to sail along with us and witness all that we’ve learned thus far. We got to Mountain Point which was beautiful because it is right near a national park. We learned how to anchor and got to jump in and swim around for a bit. We saw some really amazing sights snorkeling like sting rays, eagle rays, and sea turtles. After we had some fun in the water, we started to prepare for the tradition of Sail Caribbean’s Chili cook off! We decorated our boats, made up themes, and started to cook our chili for the “Chilean” visiting judges. All the boats had wonderful themes including Tarzan, a wonderful magic show, and a luxurious spa. We had so much fun meeting our visitors and participating in the Sail Caribbean Cook off. After we stuffed ourselves with chili, we had a great boat meeting and headed off to bed.
