Alpha Day 12

By wpdev July 4, 2014

Captain of the day for Sao Jorge: Zach

Navigator: Nick

Mate: Matteo

Gabe started out the day by jumping into the water to save the sea turtles from the plastic bag!

Soon after we headed over to Long Bay. During the sail, we encountered some problems with our mainsail. It was stuck so we couldn’t reef and there was a giant rip in the top of it. Because the sail wouldn’t come down, we sailed onto the mooring ball at Marina Cay which was an accomplishment! Zach was an awesome skipper.

When we got secured on the ball, Meg climbed up the mast to free the sail and we all helped keep her steady. After we got the sail down, we motored to meet the rest of the fleet at Long Bay to anchor. Isabelle left to finish her Basic Keelboat practical check off and everyone else stayed at Long Bay.

We sailed on Picos, went kayaking and did stand up paddle boards! We played games on the beach and had a tug o’ war!!!

When we were all finished having fun on the beach, we went back to the boat to shower and prepare for the chili cook off! Everyone chipped in to make our awesome chili for the visiting Chileans. The Chileans came over for a taste test and we cannot wait for the results!!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
