Alpha 2 2015 – Day 11

Today, Logan was our captain and Miles was our navigator and mate. We woke up at beautiful Anegada and got shuttled to land, where we boarded a truck that took us to the other side of the island. On the way, we saw a flock of wild flamingos and a lot of cows on the road. We arrived at Loblolly Bay where Sesno gave a lesson about coral reefs and how they are impacted by global warming. Afterwards, Abby, Sophie, Paige, Miles, Marret and Lilly went snorkeling on the outer reefs. Meanwhile, Mack, Eli, Michael, Luke, Ale and Logan went to the restaurant and had some good ol’ fashioned fries and sodas.

After a long snorkel, we went back to the boats and set sail for Trellis Bay on Beef Island. It was a pretty leisurely sail down wind for most of the way. When we arrived at Trellis, we prepared our last dinner on the boat. It’s strange to think that this trip is nearly over; it’s been amazing but way too quick!

Today, our crew did a great job of securing the secondary line to the mooring ball but we need to work on cleaning. Our miracle moment was seeing a barracuda during lunch!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
