Alpha 2 2015 – Day 8

Today, Olivia was our captain and Will was our navigator and mate. We began the day with a lie in until 8a.m. and David prepared breakfast for the crew. We then all went to the beach and had a volleyball contest with Xeres and then got to explore the rest of Nanny Cay. Olivia and Carla went to the stores to shop a little and John, Garrett, David, Casey, Joseph, Matt and Alex went swimming. It was then time to head back to the boats. We refreshed on how to de-dock and then came up with a plan on how to get out of our space. Olivia did a great job of controlling the boat and got us out of Nanny Cay safely with the help of the rest of the crew.

We then began our longest sail yet, which was four and a half hours to the Bitter End Yacht Club. Olivia did a great job at sailing upwind and the crew was great at tacking efficiently. We arrived to Bitter End on time so had plenty of time to swim and prepare dinner. After dinner, Bridget, Olivia and Carla had a jam sesh on the guitalele and practiced their singing.

Today, our crew did a great job of de-docking but we need to work on getting chores done faster. Our miracle moment was when we arrived to BEYC after such a long sail.

Look forward to photos later on today!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
