Alpha 2 2015 – Day 9

Today, Sophie was our captain and Logan was our navigator and mate. We spent the full day at Bitter End Yacht Club. In the morning, after a delicious breakfast buffet, everyone went on a hike which had amazing views. After this, we replenished with some lunch before starting rotations of different activities.

Marret, Ale, Miles, Logan, Eli, Michael, Mack and Lilly all went on the poparazzi which is like extreme tubing so it is always a kid favorite. Abby and Paige sunbathed on the beach hammocks while Luke and Sophie went sailing in a 420. Later, Paige, Abby, Michael and Lily sailed a Hobie Cat.

Everyone was tired from all the activities by the afternoon, so we all lounged on shore as the sun started to set. We then returned to the boat at around 6pm and started preparing for the chili cook off! Everyone participated; Marret, Alejandro and Sophie cooked while everybody else decorated and prepared the boat for the food critics, the famous Chileans who traveled a long way from home to judge the contest. Each boat’s chili was judged by the visitors on it’s smell, taste, and its plop.

Today, our crew did a great job of working together as a team but we need to work on being more independent when necessary.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
