It was a long day for all of our Alpha 3 program travelers,  but all have safely arrived at our home base of Hodges Creek Marina. Renee, the Alpha 3 Medical Officer, and Grom, our Watersports Intern, were both excited, waiting for all the arriving students today. Arriving in shifts, the first group of students were assigned and settled into their boats to hang out for an hour before the rest of the crew arrived. Once altogether,  we enjoyed a delicious meal of Sail Caribbean’s favorite chicken, rice and slaw, gobbling it up from inside our new floating homes, among new friends.

Following dinner, students sat attentively as an infamous “Mike Talk” was delivered under the moonlight, outlining policies, standards, and expectations of the program. After taking their last refreshing shore showers for a few days, each boat also held their first boat meeting with their new crew. Everyone got acquainted and shared introductions, followed by captains and mates leading an introduction to boat life. After wrapping up the meeting, the students fell fast asleep in anticipation of leaving the docks the follow morning!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
