We woke up to a day of activities on shore at the Bitter End Yacht Club! We had breakfast on the boat then shuttled to shore for a challenging hike around part of Virgin Gorda, where we saw some incredible views from the summit. We then all had lunch at the Pub and began our rotations for the day at around 1p.m. There were loads of things to do throughout the day; Sophie, Elinor, Josie and Valeria all went out on the Hobie Cats in the morning where they all got to practice a lot of capsize drills. Kirk, Chris, Bryce and Noah went tubing while Daniel and Steve sailed in 420s, where they refined their upwind sailing. Noah and Steve also started a very intense volleyball tournament with Xeres and it was pretty obvious that Steve and Noah were champions. Everyone got a chance to try all the activities so it was both a really fun and relaxing day.

We then had a fleet meeting at 5p.m. where the Chili Cook-off was announced. Chris and Bryce did an amazing job at cooking the chili, choosing to add bacon and pineapple as secret ingredients. It was a “Spongebob Squarepants” themed dinner and Elinor played songs from the show on a ukulele. Overall, it was a great dinner and the visiting “Chileans” who came to judge the competition were very impressed. Today, our crew did a great job of working together as a team and planning, but we need to improve on cleaning while we cook.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
