Captain of Venture: Natalie

Today was challenge day! This means that the crew took care of the boat, drove the boat, and basically controlled every aspect of the boat without the assistance of the counselors.

We started our day with a quick rainy motor over to the Baths. We swam ashore and went on a hike and snorkel through the giant rocks.

On our snorkel we saw jellyfish, sting rays, and even some nurse sharks!

We then had a quick pasta salad for lunch and raced SJ to Trellis Bay. Venture won, of course. Once the whole alpha fleet was moored at Trellis, we did a snorkel trash clean up in the mooring field. We found lots of towels, cups. We wanted to throw out all of those things that did not belong there. After that, we took showers and headed to shore to visit Aragorn’s Studio, a local artist. We bought some shirts and locally grown mangoes! We ended this full day with burritos for dinner and had a debrief of our challenge day!

Today our crew did a good job sailing the boat without help

Quote of the day: “Where are we even going” –Phil in a funny accent
Miracle Moment: Bryce and Oscar finding the boat hook after it fell overboard

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
