Day 3

The day started with a nice lie in and the crew woke up to the sweet smell of French Toast whispering through the air. It was our second day of sailing, after recapping how to raise the sail, we were underway. Tacking along and enjoying the view, we made it to the North side of Tortola and onto the island of Jost van Dyke around lunchtime just in time for lunch and had pizza bagels- a popular Sail Caribbean favorite!

We went on a short hike to the locally famous Bubbly Pools, although it didn’t really live up to its name, as it was low tide, it was nice to feel our feed on the sandy ground. During the hike, we learned about and saw a few Manchineel trees which have an interesting history here in the islands along with a unique way they release poison. At the end of the hike, we were able to take a dip in the bubbly pool to refresh ourselves for the way back.

When we all went back to the boat, the afternoon was spent doing a bit of snorkeling, spotting some rays, squid, and lobsters, and chilling out while playing cards on the deck.

Our dinner prep teams headed to the galley cooking up some seasoned meat for a delicious spaghetti bolognese for dinner.. with garlic bread! They are becoming quite the chefs already!

A few showers coined with the Caribbean sunshine left us with a beautiful double rainbow to end the evening. As the sun fell, we settled down for a boat meeting with hot chocolate in hand and caught up on each others favorite moments of the day.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
