Delta 1 2015 – Day 3

written by Program Director, Jen Borderud

The Delta crew kicked off the day with a morning of small boat sailing, beach games, water sports, and relaxation at the Cooper Island Beach Club. Sam, Emily, and Emma began their ASA Basic Keelboat course with our ASA Instructor, Keith. Dylan and Hawkey explored the bay on some stand up paddle boards while Emily impressed everyone with a paddle board headstand. Madison and Stephanie did a little shopping at the beach boutique and enjoyed hanging out in the water with some students from the Charlie and Bravo programs.

Pablo and Elvira continued their Open Water Diving course in the afternoon, while the rest of the gang learned a little bit about the inhabitants of coral reef ecosystems in the British Virgin Islands. Everyone jumped in for a snorkel at Cistern Rock and had the chance to get up close and personal with a trumpet fish, juvenile angelfish, and a massive school of zebra fish. The highlight of the day though was definitely getting to hang out and swim with some very friendly green sea turtles as they enjoyed an afternoon sea grass snack. After dinner, everyone headed ashore for sodas and ice cream while they got to know some of the Charlie and Bravo students.

Look forward to photos being posted later tonight!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
