This morning, our staff awoke at sunrise to drop the ball and head towards Saba! Saba is a beautiful island located near St. Martin, about a 10 hour sail away. Around 9:00a.m., the rest of the crew joined our staff in raising sails. During the sail, everyone worked on their navigation skills and enjoyed the breezy sail for the day! Even though everyone was sleepy, when Saba came into view, no one could look away.

As we inched closer, we picked up a mooring ball in Well’s Bay. Lines secured, the dive company Sea Saba picked us up in their dive boat and took us to shore for a hike! While driving through Saba, everyone remained awe-inspired and silent because there were no words to explain how stunning Saba truly is.

On shore, we went on a hike at the Ladder. The Ladder is located near Well’s Bay and this was how people got on and off the island before there were any roads on Saba. The Ladder consists of 410 steps that go from the beach to the capital, the Bottom.

After the hike, everyone was very sweaty and smelly so we headed back to boats for some much-appreciated ocean showers. The rest of the evening, we talked about how rewarding the hike was and what diving would be like the following day!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
