Early Alpha 2015 – Day 12

written by Program Director, Phil Yudin

Today was a ton of fun, but by the end of it we were all ready for bed! It started off with an early morning motor from Monkey Point to Long Bay over on Beef Island. After a breakfast of eggs and bacon, most of us hopped in the dinghies to await the arrival of the dive boat to take us away on our last dive of the program. While the divers were doing their thing, the rest of us were on shore at Long Bay playing beach games like Ultimate Frisbee and Volleyball. Sebastian went for a nice long stroll along long bay while Lorenzo and Garrett took a Pico sailboat out for a short cruise around in the bay. May, Virginia, and Moss got some great tanning time, and then went out for a spin in some kayaks. Phoebe, Irina, Travis, and Emily went out tubing. Travis was showing off his sweet tubing skills, standing up on the tube and at one point riding it backwards.

Once our divers returned, we had some lunch and then went ashore for the OLYMPICS! The Sail Caribbean Olympics are a competition between the boats that includes events such as dizzy fender relay races, tug of war, sand sculpting, and synchronized swimming. All the boats did spectacularly, and the winners will be announced at our awards night. To finish off a long day, we had a barbecue on the beach thanks to the fine folks in our Operations department, Jay, Brad, and Aoife. By the end of the barbecue, we were all exhausted, and tomorrow’s wake-up is even earlier than today’s was, so it wasn’t long before everyone was happily snoozing away.

Pictures coming soon!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
