Follow Our Journey! Delta 1 – Days 15 & 16
Written by Charlotte “Charlie,” Camper on Nosey B
On Day 15 Nosey B and Polygala took off from St. Barths and headed to St. Eustacias. We left the French territory and entered the Dutch! We woke up at 6 a.m to the Nosey B classic of Black Bird, and Tayan and I then made French toast and bacon for the boat. Christina, one of our mates, got us croissants from shore! Meanwhile, members from Polygala snorkeled their way to a 20-foot swim rock, which they then got to jump off of. Shortly thereafter we all started our sail, which consisted of games, music, and naps. After the sail, both boats anchored, made lunch, and then divided into activities. Those who were certified went on a fun dive of a shipwreck, 60 ft deep where they saw turtles, sting rays, and so much more. The rest of the boats, including myself, went to shore for the Quill Hike. The hike ended with us on the low edge of the crater of a volcano. It was amazing. The hike was optional, which is what landed a few exploring a fort and getting their dinghy certifications.
After the activities concluded we made our way back to the boat for showers, and then we all quickly turned around for a dinner at shore! The dinner was delicious. We returned back to our boats for a boat meeting and then went to bed either under the stars on the deck, in the cabins, or in the salon. All in all a great day!
On Day 16 both boats woke up planning to drop anchor right away to get to St. Kitts, but we had a slight rain delay. Nosy Be instead made breakfast burritos and took some naps. Once we were about ready to leave we were pleasantly surprised to hear about doing a boat swap! Four Polygala campers made their way to Nosey B and four Nosey B campers left for Polygala for the sail. We then dropped anchor and started the sail. Both boats had a lot of fun, and it was a great change of pace being with new people.
After the sail, we landed in a new country, St. Kitts. We all docked, made lunch, and then made our way to cars for tours led by two local drivers, Percy and Peter. On the tour, we got to try a new fruit called Guinups, explore a fort, see monkeys, and finish off the day by going to get food from Shipwreck Beach. Once getting back to the boats after an amazing tour we all got to take land showers and then play games. To end the night Nosey B went over to Polygala to celebrate Carter’s birthday with a delicious cake with cheesecake frosting. Afterward, we all returned to our boats and went to bed.
