“As this was the first time our 14-year-old son had traveled unaccompanied to a location he’d never been to and to join a group he’d never met, we were a little apprehensive about the trip. Living on a boat with a dozen other teenagers was also a very different experience. Not just from what he has reported about what he did, but in his own words — he had a great time. He was the proudest about gaining his SCUBA and sailing certifications. This is what he set out to do and he was quite proud that he was able to do both and do them well. He’s discovered new passions and skills he will have with him for the rest of his life. Being Skipper for the day on Challenge Day had a huge impact on him. The short time away was so different from his life at home and he came back more confident in his leadership skills, his social skills, even his skills in the kitchen!”
