We had an exciting second day of program on Tango! We started our morning with an early wakeup at Hodges Creek Marina and a delicious first breakfast of pancakes. After we cleaned up breakfast, students went to the pool at the marina and spent some time getting to know each other while splashing in the pool.

After our trip to the pool, we headed back to our boat, I Am Free, and had a quick snack and got ready for our Prior to First lesson. During our Prior to First lesson, we learned the different parts of the boat, how to prepare for a day of sailing, and winch safety! We then learned how to complete our pre-departure checks and got ready to leave docks.

After an extremely successful dedocking, we headed towards Manchionel Bay on Cooper Island. Under way, we had a lunch of hoagies and learned how to raise the mainsail. Once we got to Cooper Island, we learned how to pick up a mooring ball and got ready to head to shore for an afternoon on the beach. Some of us snorkeled to shore and saw a stingray and barracuda on the way! Once we were all on shore, we got ice cream, went to the shops, kayaked, played catch, and used stand up paddle boards.

After our afternoon on shore, we headed back to I Am Free and learned how to shower on the boat. Everyone loved their first boat shower! For our first dinner made by students, we had delicious burritos. We then had a boat meeting and got ready for bed so we were rested for our awesome day tomorrow!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
