Tango Day 12!

By wpdev July 25, 2014

The crew of Mazurka woke up excited for the day.  We started the morning with a buffet breakfast and quick boat clean to prepare for our day with YEP.  Captain Dave lead us in a knot lesson where we practiced out clove hitches and cleat hitches.  YEP, the Youth Empowerment Program, arrived at 10:00 am and we split into tow groups.  The first group went sailing, and our skipper of the day, Jake lead the way explaining the positions for various maneuvers to our new crew mates.  Claire taught J’Kyla and Anecia her newly practice clove hitch.  When we arrived back on docks, the sailing crew hungrily investigated what their friends had been doing all morning.  One of the YEP parents lead a cooking lesson  with the other half of the crew.  They made Johny Cakes and both Tango and YEP kids had a blast creating different shapes.  Missy made a sailboat and a starfish!  Both groups came together for a delicious lunch of Saltfish and Johny Cakes, a traditional Island dish.  There were no leftovers!  After saying farewell to our new island friends, the crew of Mazurka returned to the boat for a nice afternoon of phone time, smoothies, and swimming in the pool at Hodges Creek.  Zane spent his afternoon doing a Discover Scuba Dive and loved it!  Justin and Max prepared some delicious pizza bagels for dinner before the divers went on their night dive.  They returned just in time for the ice cream social with the Sierra and Foxtrot programs.  Jen made hot chocolate for everyone which we enjoyed with our ice cream and a few bananas.  Boat meeting consisted of  with many laughs and we finished the evening in high spirits.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
