Bravo 1 & Charlie 1 Day 15: Downwind Sailing to Soper's Hole

We began the day at Great Harbour, which is located on Peter Island. For breakfast, students got to have some pretty delicious cinnamon rolls. Fermi showed off their skills by sailing off the ball instead of just using their engine! While underway, students practiced sailing downwind and got to enjoy the boat heeling over. The students of Rioja also learned about man overboard and got some practice in by successfully picking up two man overboards during some friendly, executed drills.

Fermi had a slight surprise before heading into Soper’s Hole – a minor snafu made our helm lose steering quite briefly while safely dropping the main sail, so our students properly learned what it was like to drive with our back up tiller. Everyone finally entered the mooring field and ate creative combos of leftovers for lunch. After lunch, students grabbed their wallets and their water bottles and headed to shore. During their time on shore, students got to go to shops and get a snack at Pusser’s restaurant! When everyone headed back to their boats, they started to prepare for chili cook-off! Chili cook-off is a tradition at Sail Caribbean where boats compete to have the best chili and themed presentation for their boat. Once chili cook-off was complete and the visiting “Chileans” left Soper’s, we all got ready for bed and prepared for the next day to Little Harbor on Peter Island.
