Day 16

The fleet woke up at Oil Nut Bay, excited for a long sail back over to Cooper Island. After a delicious breakfast of oatmeal with assorted fruit, we began de-docking and motored through the narrow channel to Virgin Gorda’s North Sound. The North Sound is a world renowned location known for its natural beauty and perfect location for wind water-sporting! After raising sails, students enjoyed stunning views of the islands as the fleet cruised to Cooper Island on a smooth downwind sail.

After picking up mooring balls at Cooper, the fleet settled down for a relaxing afternoon of kayaking, tubing and Colgate sailing. Some students left on the dive boat to finish up their Advanced Open Water certifications or just to enjoy a recreational dive, while others hopped over to Salt Island for a beach clean. A total of 12 extra large size bags were filled!

Later in the afternoon, the beach cleaning students came back with a dinghy piled full of trash. As the divers also returned to their boats, they were welcomed with a delicious dinner of pasta carbonara. After the delicious meal, each boat’s crew gathered for a boat meeting to debrief the day, and then headed to bed.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
