Bravo, Charlie, Foxtrot, Sierra 1: Day 16 – Chili Cook-off

Today we woke up around 7 am in the beautiful little harbor, which is a favorite to many of the students due to its abundant marine wildlife and clear turquoise waters. In the morning the rescue divers, advanced open water, and dive masters in training got picked up to continue their certifications. Meanwhile, the fun divers went on an underwater adventure where they dove a wreck called the Willy T, which is creatively decorated with skeletons and other treasures to mimic a pirate atmosphere. There they saw a nurse shark and many colorful fish. At the same time the Foxtrot and Sierra students joined Waimea and Stella blu to snorkel and turtle tag. After an hour of snorkeling and searching for turtles, the Soxtrot kids were able to tag a green turtle and got to experience the different steps and purposes of turtle tagging through hands-on learning. The bravo kids got to go colgating, hiked an abandoned hotel above the harbor, and participated in water sports such as tubing, which is always a blast. After lunch we all sailed to The Bight, Norman where we began preparing for the chili cook-off, which is a Sail Caribbean tradition and a highlight of the trip for many of the students. Everyone got super into it and the excitement was contagious with creative dinner themes such as minions, cringey tourists, and French fine dining. The chili was delicious and all the boats gave 110% in coming up with unique ideas. We closed off this fantastic day with our nightly boat meeting and went to bed excited for another awesome day in the BVI.
