IT’S CHALLENGE DAY! Challenge Day is when our staff members take a step back and our students take over everything on their boats; the crews are completely in charge with staff only interfering if they feel safety is compromised. For this challenge day, the Delta crews had the task of getting their vessels from St. Barth’s to St. Kitt’s. This included dedocking, a 7 hour sail, and a docking.

We all woke up at the early hour of 5:45a.m. to receive the schedule and tips for throughout the day. Each de-docking was executed perfectly and each student was confident in their every maneuver, such as downwind sailing. During the sail, there were heavy winds and both boats hit over 10 knots!

We safely got to St. Kitt’s without the help of any staff and each docking was smooth as butter. As we were pulling into St. Kitt’s we all stared in awe of the natural beauty of the island.

Once we got checked in, we explored the immediate area around the island and went to an ice cream shop. Challenge day was finally complete and we could not be more proud of our students for how excellent the day went.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
