Delta 1: Day 6 – Scrub Island

By wpdev July 10, 2022

It was a typical Sail Caribbean morning which means that the campers woke up at seven and enjoyed a breakfast buffet of cereal, bagels, and fresh fruit. Today our campers were busy getting certified and helping the counselors sail the boat to our next destination. Some people were completing their open water scuba certifications and some were passing their ASA 101 basic keelboat practicals. The remaining campers helped skipper the boat as we sailed from Cooper Island to Scrub Island.

Before they left the divers packed a lunch to make sure they were fully prepared for their full day of scuba diving.  They completed two dives before lunch and  one after lunch, then they met up with the rest of the group at Scrub in the afternoon. Everyone completed their open water dives and can’t wait to get back in the water. It was a windy day for the sailors in the Colgates, but the campers had a ton of fun and everyone got their certification.

The campers spent the rest of the day on shore enjoying the amenities at Scrub. Campers had the chance to visit the market, play in the pool, and most excitingly, land showers. For dinner we enjoyed fried rice and got to visit campers on the other boats docked at Scrub! While it was a hectic day, the crew of Noodle was happy to reunite and recount the tales from their day.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
