Delta 2 2018 Adventures Day 17 – With Heavy Hearts, We Say Goodbye To The Leewards

The Delta crew arrived at the shore of Saba with hiking shoes in hand, ready for an active day on the island! But first, we met with Saba’s Environmental Group to learn about the island itself and what makes Saba so special. Afterwards, half of our group went to the base of the trail of Mount Scenery and the other half went along the beach to clean up some of the visible trash. For a little over an hour, our crews helped keep the beauty of the island sustained which made us all feel a little lighter.

Next was the hike — Mount Scenery is the very top of Saba and is normally hidden behind clouds. The hike itself is through the forest and the closer you get to the top, the more the trees begin to fill with fog making this hike a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our hikers came down completely exhausted, yet so satisfied with what they just had accomplished. For those who opted out of hiking, they had the opportunity to enjoy more of the windward side of Saba.

Once back to our boats in the late morning, it was yet again time to prepare for our second overnight passage back to the BVIs! Everyone showered and stowed away all items on the boat to prepare for the long journey ahead. Once sails were up and our courses were plotted, we began our three-hour watches. Since we would be sailing downwind, our journey would be a lot more calm and relaxed than the first night sail. In the beginning of our sail, everyone enjoyed each other’s company listening to music and watching the stars. We all reflected on how lucky we all felt to be with each other on such an amazing trip!
