Delta 2 2018 Adventures Day 8 – Mountain Point To Leverick Bay

Happy Challenge Day! Challenge Day is when we put the crew’s knowledge to the test by having the staff step back and let the student crews take over completely. Some of their duties include navigation, up-anchoring, raising and lowering sails, picking up a mooring ball and keeping to the day’s schedule. It is also up to them to make sure all students and staff are executing all of their duties safely and to the standards that they now know inside and out.

Both boats did an excellent job of getting off anchor and leaving Mountain Point! Since Mountain Point is so close to Leverick Bay, the Delta crew decided to sail around within the North Sound to practice and prove their skills as sailors! During the sail, it looked as if a small rainstorm was heading their way, so the crew had to decide to either take down sails or sail away from the storm. No one wanted to cut the sail short, so instead both boats sailed away from the dark and stormy clouds to continue their fun.

When it was time to head into the channel, the crew lowered sails and prepared for a mooring ball pick up. Zanzibar was the first boat to be on the ball, followed by Fidji. Once all lines were secured, everyone headed to shore to check out the shops and the pool. Everyone got the chance to get some souvenirs and some snacks before heading back to the boat. Everyone quickly showered and had a thorough boat clean because tonight they had the opportunity to eat dinner onshore!

At Leverick, there is a restaurant that overlooks the pool and serves items such as burgers and fish options. With full stomachs, everyone returned to their home boats and went to bed early because tomorrow we left to go down island!
