Delta 2 2018 Adventures Day 9 – Leverick Bay To St. Barth's!

Today, our students got to have a very relaxing morning in preparation of the down island sail! To prepare, the crews had to stow away any loose items, gather harnesses, fuel and water up, and check out of the country. While our Program Director handled checking us out, we all stayed back at Leverick Bay to get our jobs done. Before getting off the dock and back onto the ball, we all called home to check in before heading out into the open ocean!
For dinner, everyone enjoyed a dinner of baked ziti. Around 7:00p.m., we got ready to drop our mooring balls and head out. Once we got out of the North Sound channel, we headed past Necker Island and the rest of Virgin Gorda. Once land was all behind us, we raised our sails and plotted our course to Île Fourchue which is located right outside St. Barth’s. For the night sail, there would be three different watches, during the watches students would plot our course, check in with the other Delta boat traveling nearby to them, and check that our dinghy was secured on the bow.
Around 8:00p.m., the first watch began and those who weren’t on watch rested up for their turn. For the rest of the night, students would be overwhelmed with excitement and awe during the sail.
