We awoke at dawn to the foreign mystique of St. Kitts, an island oasis erupting from the surrounding sea. We gathered our things and set off from the boats: ahead of us a day of fun, exploration, and intrigue. We were welcomed to the island by two friendly locals who escorted us on our quests.

Through the rolling mountains and hills we rode; living, loving, and learning about the island and its history. We drove up a great mountain, where a colonial bastion (Brimstone fortress) awaited at the summit. We then proceeded to explore the unworldly ruin, learning about the islands imperial heritage. The fortress was built by the British in 1625 and stood as the pinnacle of colonial fortification and engineering, incorporating advanced plumbing and sewage systems.

After exploring the fort, we ventured into the inner belly of the island, the jungle. Looking like something out of Jurassic Park, the jungle hosted a multitude of activities for us to enjoy. We became one with nature, swinging on vines alongside monkeys.

After frolicking in the islands humid jungles, we were hot, hungry, and ready for the beach. Shipwreck Beach was beautiful with a bar and dance floor right above the water. For hours we laughed, swam, and danced; yet the day seemed to pass in minutes. The campers and counselors all agreed that it was one of the best days yet.

After a day of pure enjoyment, it was back to the boats, where we mingled and were serenaded by a steel drum band in the distance. With the music still playing faintly in the background, the boats powered down to get some much needed sleep.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
