Delta 2 Day 17: Mentored By The Best, We Spent The Morning Crafting Glass Art Beads

This morning, the Delta crew awoke early on the ball off the steep cliffs of Saba. After a breakfast of cereal and bagels and a good clean, everyone was picked up by the dive boats to be ferried ashore.  Once on the docks at Fort Bay, two taxi vans arrived to take our crews to Windwardside, where we’d spend the day.  For the next several hours, everyone enjoyed free time ashore with many awesome activities.

One of the top attractions on Saba, our group got the chance to visit Jo Bean’s glass shop. Here, everyone admired and shopped Jo’s unique creations  and were treated to a bead making lesson from the artist herself. Students then got to try their hand at crafting glass, taking turns behind the torch being personally mentored by Jo and walking out with their very own beads! The remainder of our time ashore was spent exploring the shops and cafes around Windwardside and having a bit of time to relax on Saba before heading back to the BVI’s.

As early afternoon waned, the Delta crew jumped back in our taxis to be taken to Fort Bay where the dive boats awaited to ferry us back to our vessels. Returned to Rioja and Xeres, both crews set to readying the boats for our second overnight sail. Dinghies raised and lashed, biminis put back, and below decks spic and span, we were prepared to drop the ball by 5p.m. and began motoring towards our destination.

Raising sails and settling into a beam reach, we watched Saba fade away behind us, the cotton candy sunset fading into a beautiful starry night as we ventured off towards the open sea, excited for the expedition before us.
