Early Foxtrot & Early Sierra 2018 Adventures Day 7 – From Nanny To Diamond Cay

Today, the fleet sailed from Nanny Cay to Diamond Cay. We had two hours this morning to enjoy the shops and beaches at Nanny Cay, then we learned about de-docking and students took turns at the helm as we headed out to the Sir Francis Drake channel for an early afternoon of sailing!
During the sail, we learned about navigation because tomorrow is our program’s Challenge Day sail! This is when staff on board each vessel take a step back in terms of management, handing over the responsibility of running the ship to our student crews. We also had a lesson on Man Overboard drills as we passed through the Thatch Island Cut.
We moored at Diamond Cay, a tiny islet located just off Jost Van Dyke, for the afternoon and attempted to catch sea turtles to be tagged for research collection but had no such luck! Luckily, the water was beautiful! We look forward to the next opportunity to try again with turtling very soon.
Afterwards, we decorated our boats and started cooking for Sail Caribbean’s infamous Chili Cookoff! We had a dance party when the special guests (the Chileans!) came to visit and enjoy/judge our homemade chili recipes.
After our evening boat meeting, we went to bed early because we had to be up early for Challenge Day tomorrow!
