Early Foxtrot & Early Sierra 2018 Adventures Day 9 – Marina Cay To Mountain Point

We slept so well after a pretty exhausting and fun Challenge day yesterday. After we enjoyed breakfast, the Foxtrot and Sierra fleet gathered on Salome and learned about corals and reefs. Then, we hopped in the water to snorkel! The Sierra students had their specific marine biology independent projects in mind during the snorkel while the Foxtrot students searched for the corals they had just learned about. We saw tons of fish of all sizes too! After the snorkel, we enjoyed time getting whipped around on the water-sporting tube.

We then hung out on the boat and made Italian pasta salad for lunch. After lunch, we did a sail switch. All the girls from Sierra and Foxtrot got to sail on an Alpha program monohull, while the boys got to sail on a separate one. The Alpha students got to try out the catamarans we have been sailing all program, too! We had a lot of fun learning the differences in sailing the monohulls and the catamarans. We really liked the change of pace sailing on the monohull because we could feel it keel over and it was faster! Overall, we liked living on the catamarans better although grateful that we got to experience both.

We sailed over to Mountain Point on Virgin Gorda and anchored. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset while we took boat showers and made fajitas. After dinner and dinner clean, we got the chance to go on a night snorkel! It was a little bit spooky at first but surely enough, we warmed up to the new experience and discovered some little shrimps, crabs, and lobsters. We played in the bio-luminescence for a while before heading back to our boats. We then spent some quality time together at our boat meeting for the evening. Accordingly, we tucked ourselves in early for the night from another fun and long day on the Caribbean waters.
