Foxtrot 1 & Sierra 1 2015 – Day 13

Monkey Point to Trellis Bay

The Foxtrot and Sierra students got up early and made a delicious pancake breakfast, starting off the Fourth of July in a festive way! With Julie on the helm, Miss You got off the ball right after breakfast clean, and did a circumnavigation around the back of Guana Island. Dylan and Reese helped haul up the mainsail while Matt and Paige unfurled the jib. Eric was always eager to help out with each tack performed. After their early morning sail, Paige, Marley and Vin helped hook and thread a mooring ball at Trellis Bay. All Foxtrot students headed to shore at Trellis and hopped in the truck, which Jay, our Operations Director, drove around Tortola so they could see what island life is like from shore! Paul was Sail Caribbean’s Fourth of July Instagram post star yesterday, sporting his proud red, white, and blue from inside the truck’s bed. Everyone was excited to stop in Road Town for some of La Dolce Vita’s famous ice cream before they headed back to their boat for the afternoon.

The Sierra students started off the morning with an early wake-and-skate. Liam, Alejandro, Matt, and Aidan each pulled off some sweet tricks on the wake skate before they headed back to the boat to get ready for the exciting day. Spyglass followed the same path as Miss You, doing a short sail around Guana before they picked up a mooring ball in Trellis Bay. Emily was on the helm while Alejandro hooked the mooring ball, and Mayra and Kayla threaded the lines through. David and Matt prepared a lunch of pizza bagels for everyone. After lunch was cleaned, Sierra students headed to shore and got to go on a truck tour, as well. All students had a blast on the windy island roads, and the ice cream stop was much appreciated. Nico got three scoops of chocolate ice cream and was thrilled about it, and everyone had fun eating their ice cream before it melted in the July heat!

The afternoon consisted of a fun snorkel trash clean and some down-time. Then, everyone had a classic American dinner of hamburgers and baked beans. Once dinner was cleaned up, students headed to shore for an all-fleet fireball party to celebrate the Fourth of July! Sodas and smoothies were had all around while students danced in the sand, listened to island music, observed the beautiful fireballs burning atop the water,  browsed Aragorn’s local art studio, and enjoyed each other’s company.
