Foxtrot 1 & Sierra 1 Day 15: Squid Dissection

Diamond Cay to Little Harbour, Jost Van Dyke
The day started at 8:20a.m. with an exciting turtle tagging session. Ish, the captain of Foxtrot, caught a turtle in an early morning turtle session. The turtle was brought to the Sierra boat where Nico, Kayla, Mayra helped with the various measurements needed and Matt helped keep the turtle hydrated by sprinkling water over his head and body. Unfortunately, the turtle had an old propeller gash on its carapace, which was sad to see. Thankfully, he seemed happy and healthy besides that.
Aidan and Emily then prepared breakfast, which was delicious chocolate pancakes. After clean up, both Foxtrot and Sierra hiked to the ‘Bubbly Pools’ on Jost Van Dyke. There were tons of rocks to climb and a massive rock pool to swim in! Dylan, Paul, Vin, Matt, Reese and Eric were like ninjas climbing all over the rocks while Marley, Julie and Paige relaxed by the bubbly pool and had small fish nibble on their toes!
Once we got back to the boats, it was project time for Sierra and turtle tagging for Foxtrot. Myra, Kayla, Alejandro , Aidan and Liam dinghy-ed over to snorkel a reef to collect some data, while Matt, Nico, Emily and David stayed to analyze their already collected data and do some more research.
Lunch was much needed after a busy morning. We all ate couscous with peppers, tomatoes, chickpeas and onions. Following lunch, Sierra and Foxtrot had a squid dissection. Everyone had their own personal squid. Alex, Sierra’s captain led us through the entire thing, and we all learned a lot, but the smell wasn’t particularly pleasant.
After, we had some chill time, and then motored to Little Harbour. Kayla, the skipper of the day on Sierra, did a great job of mooring the boat. We spent dinner onshore with another fleet, Chavo. It was a massive buffet, and we had sodas too! After we filled our stomachs to the brim, we headed back to boats where we played Celebrity heads, which was hysterical. We were all ready for bed as we had to be up bright and early for race day tomorrow!
