Nanny Cay to Key Point

Today, we woke up at 7:30a.m. and had a hot breakfast of Crescent rolls prepared by Alejandro and Nico on Spyglass, while Paige and Reese made them on Miss you.  Some were plain while others were sprinkled with some cinnamon and sugar. They were a delicious start to the day, and I’m sure the neighboring boats were jealous of the lovely smells! Even in the early morning, Nanny Cay docks were hot and humid, so we got off docks as quick as we could. By 9:00a.m., both Spyglass and Miss you were sailing into the Sir Francis Drake Channel on the way to Key Point. Julie was the skipper of Miss you while Emily was the Skipper on Spyglass, with the help of their crew they trimmed their sails to a beam reach and sailed across to Peter Island. Both boats were steaming along at 5/6 knots!

All students reached Key Point by 11a.m. so Foxtrot had time for an hour of community service in the form of a turtle watch. Unfortunately, no turtles were spotted much to everyone’s disappointment, but Eric, Vin, Dylan and Marley did spot an eagle ray which was awesome! Sierra’s Liam and Aidan jumped in the water to get some more data for their project on coral bleaching and Mayra and Kayla gathered more data for their projects too! The rest of the Sierra did some analysis and ran some tests on board Spyglass. By 12:30p.m., everyone was hungry and lunch was served. Matt, Paul, Liam, David prepared a fantastic meal of bagels, tomatoes, avocado and eggs. Everyone ate lunch quickly as the dive boat was arriving at 1:30 to collect all the fun and advanced divers. Advanced did their Deep Dive and Navigation Dive which was packed full of knowledge and practical skills. The students had to take off their masks at 60ft! Incredible! While the divers were away, the non-divers got to watersport. Marley, Eric and Julie tried out the new knee-board while Aidan and Myra made bracelets and did a worm dissection led by Liz.

At 5:30p.m., everyone returned to the boats for showers and dinner. Liam, David and Alejandro asked very politely if they could go wake-skating since it was such a gorgeous evening so KB jumped in the rib and towed them around. David got up on the wake-skate for the very first time which was unbelievable and he was very happy with himself. Dinner tonight was celebrating Indian culture with Chicken Tikka Masala and Pita Garlic Naan Bread.

Later, there was a boat meeting on both Foxtrot and Sierra, and they did an activity called Letters to Self, which every student will write before the end of program and will then be sent out to them at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

The day was packed full of fun and everyone was exhausted by 9:30p.m. and decided to go to sleep early excited for the adventures that tomorrow brings!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
