In The Aftermath Of Irma, We Are #BVIStrong

By wpdev January 4, 2018

While the BVI had extensive damage from Irma, the effect on our summer programs will be minimal. Our time spent living and sailing on our boats, and enjoying beach activities, hikes and watersports, will all be the same as past years and just as fun as ever. Of the many destinations we visit, only the Bitter End Yacht Club won’t be ready. But, we do have an alternative watersports location that will work very nicely for us. The Founder/Director of Sail Caribbean, Mike Liese has been visiting the BVIs every month to help understand our community’s recovery. As well, he has been assisting our year round diving company, Sail Caribbean Divers. Of note, our dive staff is doing incredible work so far as we build back to full strength.

There’s one other very important point. With our close friends from the local YEP (Youth Empowerment Program), and the Rotary Club, we are developing specific plans to assist where needed most within the BVI community. We already know that many coastal areas will need attention, given their lower priority right now. We know how important their health is to a full recovery.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
