Meet Our 2016 Tango 3 Leadership Team!
Beta Eaton, Program Director, Captain of I Am Free
Growing up in coastal Maine, Beta learned how to sail in unpredictable winds and chilly temperatures for most of the year! For a total of six months throughout high school and college, she made a change in latitudes, sailing and studying oceanography from St. Maarten to Jamaica. In the summer of 2012, Beta arrived in Tortola for her first summer of Sail Caribbean. Fresh off her first year as a science teacher, Beta put her sailing skills and marine science background to work as a captain for three programs: two on our Foxtrot adventure and one on our Charlie adventure. In 2013, she returned as Program Director of Bravo & Charlie. After two summers away from the BVI, where she spent time in New England and Philadelphia working on her teaching skills and gaining valuable professional experience, Beta has returned this summer as the Program Director for Tango and Sail Caribbean’s Community Service Coordinator.
Alex Polli, Fleet Captain, Medical Officer
Alex just graduated from Penn State University in May with a degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Development. She sailed for the Penn State Sailing team for all four years and served as Commodore in 2015. Having lived on the water all her life, Alex grew up sailing since she was 7 and attended Sail Caribbean as a student from 2008 until 2012. She hopes to attend graduate school in the near future to attain a Master’s Degree in School Counseling after of course sailing and traveling more!
Kyra Benforte, Mate of I Am Free
Kyra grew up in New York City and currently attends the University of Richmond in Virginia. She joined us a student on the Bravo, Delta, and Foxtrot adventures. Kyra won the award for “Most Likely to Break Into Dance!” at the ending ceremony of her Delta adventure. She has sailed extensively throughout the BVI and Italy, and is an expert snorkeler!
Aoife Smeaton, Provisions Manager
Aoife graduated from University College of Dublin in 2014 with a degree in Zoology. Aoife spends most of her time surrounded by as many four-legged friends as possible. Her passions are animal and human behavior, development, and learning. She spends her time working as a dog trainer, teaching puppy classes and helping people understand their canine family members. She also spends time working with socialized foxes and wolves at an education and research center in Indiana.
