Sail Caribbean is excited and proud to announce its latest undertaking, Sail Caribbean Expeditions, which debuted its first outing this March with a collegiate student crew from the Wharton School of Business. The participants were those accepted through the McNulty Leadership Program. With a customized curriculum focused on leadership, communication and teamwork, the voyage was designed by veteran Sail Caribbean staff members Sara Stone and Beta Eaton. Stone lead the 8-day tailored expedition through the British Virgin Islands.
This inaugural trip included a crew of: Erica Montemayor, the Associate Director of Wharton Leadership Ventures, two “Venture Fellows” (student leaders engaged with Wharton Leadership Ventures as an extracurricular activity), and seven undergraduate students in the Wharton School of Business.
Following the completion of the hands-on engagement, Montemayor took time to extend an evaluation of her experience working intimately with a special subdivision of our team. “First of all – the venture was incredible.” she said, “Since last June, when [my colleague] and I visited you all until the students left the Caribbean, we have felt nothing but incredible support, and professionalism from the Sail Caribbean family. Thank you for your guidance, passion and heart for serving students like ours on these wonderful expedition experiences. This company has so much integrity and dedication to its partners and community. Thank you for welcoming us into the family of partnerships.”
Praise for the two outstanding excursion directors was heartfelt and substantial, as well. Montemayor affirmed, “Beta — the way you and Sara crafted this venture intentionally to meet our needs while also walking us through the entire process made everything feel seamless and thoughtful. Sara — on behalf of myself and the students, you are such an inspiring leader and a great role model for the young and developing leaders at Wharton. Your work ethic and devotion to this program really showed throughout the entire expedition – to the small details in organizing the boat/jobs/daily schedule, to your knowledge and experience as a sailor, to your seemingly endless energy and excitement of the world around you. The students (myself included) fed off of your infectious spirit.”
The Sail Caribbean team could not be more grateful for this commendation and for the chance to build a long-lasting relationship with the Wharton School and its extraordinary student leaders of the future. In closing, Montemayor acknowledged, “It’s not easy to find the right partnership that really fits with our curriculum and intentional goals. It’s even hard to find “guides” who have the humble spirit that motivates and inspires our student’s spirit.
