Students began slowly trickling in onto docks beginning at 9:45 AM. As the day progressed and the staff finished their preparations, students enjoyed a truck tour, hanging out by the pool, grabbing a soda at the restaurant, and socializing with their new camp mates. By 6:45 PM, all of the students had arrived and we began filing through the dinner line for the traditional first night meal: Chicken, Rice, and Slaw. The evening continued with a “Mike Talk”, where Mike went through the rules and introduction to Sail Caribbean. The students finished the evening with showers and individual boat meetings, giving them an opportunity to meet everyone, including the late arrivals, learn the protocols and ask any questions.
The students were jittery with excitement and talkative as the evening moved on, but finally their energy was eased by a feeling of exhaustion from the long day of travelling.
