Sierra/ Foxtrot Dat 11: Brought to you by Samba

By wpdev July 24, 2014

Day 11:
Captain of the Day on Samba: Ava
Mate: Reagan
Challenge Day: Soper’s Hole to Dead Man’s Bay
We started the day with breakfast by Sammy, then the skipper and mate went ashore to find out the plans for the day since it was challenge day. Soon after we were off the ball and sailing to Dead Man’s. During the Sail, we did several tacks. We anchored at noon and had lunch made by Patrick and Zach.

All divers except Sammy went and dove together, while Sammy snorkeled with students from the other boats. Ishaan’s dive group saw an eagle ray and it was “massive”. The non divers went turtling after their snorkel, getting to experience power snorkeling, where they were towed behind a motor boat to allow them to cover more ground. Henry on Geneve found a green turtle by the reef which he was quick to pull up, giving us the third turtle of the program (all caught by students)!

After diving, we had ocean showers and a delicious fajitas meal prepared by Nick and Nate. At boat meeting we had a celebratory cake and debriefed Challenge day. We did a great job of timing, thinking ahead, and working together on the sail, however we allowed the cleanliness to slip a little bit…
Today our crew did a great job of tacking, and we still need to work on communication.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
