Day 8 on Tango started off with an 8 a.m. wakeup and a breakfast of French toast! After we cleaned up our breakfast, we headed to shore at the Bitter End Yacht Club and went for a hike on “Guy’s Trail.” On the trail, we were able to see Necker Island, Mosquito Rock, and Oil Nut Bay. After our hike, we headed back to I Am Free and got ready for a marine biology lesson! We joined our friends on the Alpha fleet at shore on Prickly Pear Island. We learned about mangroves and how important they are for their surrounding ecosystems.

Once we finished learning about mangroves, we got some free time hanging around I Am Free and swam with our blow up dolphin (which we named Cheesy John III) and turtle. After a lunch of quesadillas, we did a boat swap for our sail to Mountain Point on Virgin Gorda. Some of our girls went to Venture and some went to Galilee, while our boys stayed on I Am Free with all of the boys from Alpha. During our all-girl, all-boy sail to Mountain Point, we practiced man overboard drills. We dropped anchor at Mountain Point and got some more time to swim and hang out before we did water sports like wakeboarding and water skiing. After boat showers, we had sloppy joes for dinner and celebrated the birthday of Cheesy John III with a chocolate cake!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
