Tango Day 3

By wpdev July 16, 2014
Skipper of the Day: Jeremy Greenberg

Today the Tango crew woke up at Great Harbor, Peter Island to the sweet, vanilla smell of french toast being prepared by Max and Ben. After a long and filling breakfast, Mazurka and her crew dropped the mooring ball at Great Harbor and headed East for Manchioneel Bay, Cooper Island. Jeremy lead his crew from the helm as we raised the Mainsail and fell off to port to head north across the Francis Drake Channel. Shortly after unfurling our jib, a Caribbean squall made things a bit more exciting as we dropped our sails and motored through the rain to our final destination.  Once on the ball at Cooper, our Open Water SCUBA students made their way to shore to begin their training while the rest of the Tango crew learned a bit about sea turtles before jumping in the water and going for a snorkel at Cistern Rock.  Ben saw a big green sea turtle and an eagle ray hanging out beneath our boat, while the rest of the crew saw a couple of green sea turtles eating a tasty sea grass lunch near Cistern.  After the snorkel, we all went back to the boat for a quick snack before going tubing in the afternoon!

After a busy day, the crew eagerly began preparing a delicious dinner of sweet and sour chicken and broccoli. For our third boat meeting of the program our Captain, Dave and Mate, Kate brought the crew together to create something called a “Full Value Contract”.  The whole crew agreed on the qualities and values that they would like to incorporate into the community that they will build on the boat.  Some of the qualities and ideas that the crew decided to keep on the boat are a positive mental attitude, teamwork, and pushing oneself to try things. The crew fell asleep quickly and soundly to rest up for another big day ahead.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
